Aiella is a technical AI compliance monitoring platform. We build the infrastructure that helps engineering teams demonstrate what their AI systems actually do — not just what the documentation says they do.
AI regulation has arrived. The EU AI Act is in enforcement. US AI governance frameworks are emerging. Every major market is developing rules for how AI systems must behave, document their decisions, and demonstrate ongoing compliance.
The challenge for engineering teams is that compliance isn't a one-time checkbox — it's a continuous technical process. Article 12 of the EU AI Act requires automatic logging of every inference event. Article 72 requires post-market monitoring for the operational lifetime of the system. These aren't legal obligations that a law firm can satisfy. They require instrumented software.
Aiella is that software. We sit between your AI system and your compliance evidence — capturing what regulators need, so your team doesn't have to build it from scratch.
AI compliance infrastructure should be invisible to users, lightweight for developers, and ironclad for auditors. A single decorator should be enough to instrument a system. Evidence should be generated automatically, not assembled manually before an audit. Monitoring should catch problems before regulators do.
We also believe that good compliance tooling is jurisdiction-agnostic. We built the assessor for the EU AI Act because it's the most advanced framework today — but the monitoring product is designed to grow with regulation. When US federal AI rules emerge, Aiella adapts. When the UK, Singapore, or Canada develop their frameworks, the architecture supports them.
Aiella is founded by Lowell Niles, an AI/ML engineer and consultant based in San Diego with 17+ years of experience building production AI systems across healthcare, HR technology, media, and financial services. The platform runs on AWS, with AI classification powered by state-of-the-art large language models, experiment tracking via MLflow, and a Kubernetes-based infrastructure built for enterprise scale.
We are currently working with our first design partners to build the compliance monitoring SDK. If you operate a high-risk AI system and want to shape what gets built, we want to hear from you.
